- Planning: Start early
To book a nice hotel or good rental, you should be booked by Christmas, because Spring Training as become extremely popular. Also large groups (more than 4 people) present additional planning problems, so once again start early.
- Rent a House
If you have a group of 6 or more we suggest renting a house instead of going to a hotel. It usually is the same cost per person and sometimes cheaper and you get a full kitchen, living room, several bathrooms, and usually a pool. A great site to look for a house in Florida and Arizona is www.vrbo.com
- Play a Round of Golf
If you decided to play a round of golf in the morning before a game we suggest playing not close to your lodging, but close to your game day stadium. It is a lot easier to gauge driving time if you are only 5 – 10 minutes away from the stadium. Check our team pages for golf courses closest to each stadium.
- Weather in Florida
Generally in the spring, you will get sporadic late afternoon showers (potentially heavy) so we suggest that you bring a small umbrella or light rain jacket if you don’t like the idea of being drenched.
- Weather in Arizona
Generally in the spring, when you get rain, it will be potentially chilly and overcast for the entire day with an intermittent light shower. Be prepared for a full day of below-average temperatures (below 75) for the entire day by bringing a jacket or sweatshirt.
- Staying around after the game
We like the relaxed atmosphere after the game of the players and coaches. We have found that some teams actually conduct batting and field practice after the game and it is a great time to watch the veterans and prospects alike.
- Wear Sunscreen
This may sound like a silly tip but most of us have been hiding from the sun all winter and spring training is our first exposure to the sun. Don't let a bad sunburn ruin your spring training trip.
- Workouts
The majority of teams have workouts in the morning or during an away game. These are usually free and open to the public. It is a great way to see your favorite player without the big crowds.
- Phoenix to Tucson
Most cactus league fans stay in the greater Phoenix area, but if you want to travel to Tucson to see the White Sox, Rockies, or Diamondbacks, be prepared for an 1 ½ to 2 hour drive from Phoenix to Tucson. You should budget an entire day for these teams, but it is well worth the trip!
- Night Games
Plan ahead if you want to see a night game as they will only have three or four games per spring that are at night time. This is typical of most teams in Spring Training.
- Week Day Game
One way to beat the crowds for a popular team like the Cubs is to catch a week day game. They tend too be a little easier to get tickets for.
- Free Florida Spring Training Guide
The Florida Spring Training Guide is a guide to all 18 holding their annual Spring Training in Florida. The Guide includes stadium, ticket prices, telephone numbers, team schedules and more. To request a free guide please send an e-mail with your shipping address to: ngandy@flasports.com
- Berm Area
The Brewers have one of the largest berm's in the cactus league. It is easy to get tickets for and a great value.
- Roger Dean Stadium Ticket Office
The ticket office opens at 9:00 a.m., and since Berm Tickets are sold 'Day of Game' only, depending on the opponent there can be a huge line as early as 7:00 a.m.
