Before Spring Training games begin, an avid baseball fan can get excellent autograph opportunities at Workouts. Players walk around and there is little to no security, so you are free to walk the grounds and catch one of the players.

Check out the night spots the Cardinals frequent. They include the Waterway Cafe on PGA Boulevard just west of A1A and Abbey Road Grill and Raw Bar at 10800 Military Trail in Palm Beach Gardens. Abbey Road is the nearest eatery and bar to the team hotel.

Diamonds Sports Grill (Was Sluggo's) great burgers, wings, and a good draft selection. They also offer a shuttle to Hohokam Park. R.T. O'Sullivans on Southern Ave in Mesa also draws a slew of Cub fans. They have great wings also. The lounge/restaurant at the Best Western Dobson Ranch also draws a lot of Cub Fans. The food isn't all that bad. Look hard you might just see a Cub or two. Cub fans have called this hotel home for years. Call early they book up fast in March. The Courtyard in Mesa is also a nice place to stay.( Just off Southern Ave ) Go Cubs !!!! Larry - Cheboygan, MI

No spring training ballpark details its history better than Phoenix Municipal Stadium. The Valley's oldest stadium (1964) opened the year the Polo Grounds was demolished, but the light poles from that historic New York ballpark were transported to Phoenix Muni, where they are still used today. That fact is one of many historical footnotes that are written into the cement blocks that make up the stadium's concourse. www.springtrainingconnection.com

Until spring training games begin, the Red Sox hold practices at their Minor League Player Development Complex, which is located two miles east of City of Palms Park at 4301 Edison Avenue. Fans can watch practice sessions for free and shuttle buses are provided to them from City of Palms Park for $2 per person.

Sausage Race at the Brewers is the best in-game entertainment in baseball. Period. No comparison. Once you’ve seen one, you’ll expect it at every baseball game thereafter. During spring training they shorten the run. They only run from the right outfield corner to home plate, but during the season in Milwaukee – it’s a marathon, completely around the entire warning track dugout to dugout. Yet the race is short in the spring, they stay after for the entire next inning in the mezzanine taking photos with everyone and signing autographs. A Prince Fielder autograph is one thing, but the winning P-Dog (Polish Sausage) autograph is even better to a Brewers fan.

Peter - Reston VA
Be sure to hit the beer stand next to the pretzel guy at the Nationals home park. $6.50 for a 32oz beer is the best deal in the Grapefruit league.

Graham - Spring Training Connection
Just like Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Tempe Diablo Stadium is synonymous with congestion. It's tightly fit into real estate bordered by a rock formation, industrial section and I-10. The end result is traffic headaches coming and going, the worst you'll find in spring training on either coast. The stadium does have 1,350 paved parking spaces behind home plate and right field, but those fill up quickly and later arriving (or traffic delayed) fans will need to park in one of the nearby office complexes, where prices are reasonable but the wait to leave after the game is not. www.springtrainingconnection.com

Kris - Visit Central Florida
The Detroit Tigers have trained in Central Florida’s PolkCounty for more than 70 years, representing the longest relationship between a Major League Baseball team and a Spring Training host city. Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland is the winter home of the Tigers and is a great venue to take in a Spring Training game. Once the Tigers game is over, Lakeland has a lot to offer baseball fans. Visitors to the area can dine and enjoy shopping in Lakeland’s unique downtown, play one of more than 40 area golf courses, highlighted by The Club at Eaglebrooke, and enjoy fine accommodations in affordable hotels and vacation homes. For more information, and to get a free Vacation Planner, visit www.visitcentralflorida.org or call 800-828-7655.

Allen - Port St Lucie FL
Don't wait until tickets go on sale to the public. Call the box office first. Sometimes they have plans that will allow you to purchase tickets long before the public gets a chance to buy them. I just reserved seats for ten games this spring and they don't go on sale until 1/23 (that's 46 days prior to public sales). Of course these are Mets tickets and I live in Port Saint Lucie so it was convenient for me to do so. Good luck.

Mark - Campbell CA
I prefer a night game at the Oakland Athletics as the stadium comes alive with the nearby Scottsdale crowd and the stadium has a good vibe on a Friday or Saturday night. Parking is well-lit and easily located as well. The problem is (as with any team with stadium lights) that they only have three or four games per spring that are at night time.

Walker - Durango CO
I prefer a Brewer weekend game at 1:05pm. Typically the Brew Crew pull smaller crowds than other Valley favorites and therefore a disturbingly crowded Saturday or Sunday at other venues can turn out to be quite a relaxed experience at Maryvale.

Rhonda - Louisville KY
Anyone planning on going to Spring Training games at Tradition Field for the first time... If traveling I-95 south and exiting at St Lucie West Blvd (or anyone who plans on traveling eastbound St Lucie at all) be prepared for tremendous traffic delays. If you plan on arriving just at game time, allow yourself an extra 30-45 minutes travel time. An hour would be better.

Graham - Spring Training Connection
Great ballpark and location, but the one true negative to Scottsdale Stadium's highly visible downtown setting is parking. Spaces are scarce and many of the seemingly available ones near the ballpark are actually reserved for hospital parking. One way to avoid the hassle is to opt for the Giants' Trolley Shuttle, a free service from a pair of locations that begins 90 minutes before game time and concludes 30 minutes after the last pitch. Call 480-312-7696 for details.

Mark - Lancaster PA
FREE parking at Champion Stadium, home of the Braves in Spring Training. Being a Disney attraction there's a ton of people directing traffic and coordinating parking but the lot is pretty much a free-for-all after the game and there's only one way in and out so be prepared to either leave early or spend some quality time with your car waiting to get out.

Mark - Lancaster PA
Champion Stadium offers free wifi. Select the "Disney-Guest" connection and wait for the disclaimer page to appear, then click "Continue" at the bottom of the page and you're on and everything works.

City of Goodyear - Goodyear Ballpark
There are some unique seating areas for individuals and groups of various sizes, including the Right Field Pavilion and Terrace (located on the rooftop behind home plate); tickets for these areas include an unlimited buffet and fountain drinks. Club and Premium seating sections offer in-seat food and beverage service, so fans don't have to miss a thing. The Goodyear Ballpark features a concourse with a 360 degree view of the field. All seating is lower bowl, so everyone is close to the action.

Sue - Sarasota FL
If the game you wish to attend is sold out still go to the stadium a few hours before game time and stick around. Tickets held back for VIPs and players' guests are released on game day. The seats are usually some of the best and sure beat standing room only. Beware of ticket scalpers. Many Cities have laws against this and some tickets are stolen. You could be out your money and still out of the ballpark.

Graham - Spring Training Connection
The Upper Dugout seats in Surprise are some of the best non-premium seats that fans at a Cactus League ballpark can buy. Three Upper Dugout sections apiece are on each side of the second-story press box and they overhang the lower level, which puts them closer to the playing field than normal upper level seats are, and that design makes you feel like you’re hovering above the field. Even better, all seven rows in each of the six sections (201-206) are covered by a roof, so you’ll have it made in the shade at a reasonable-by-modern-day-standards price, which is $20 in 2010.
Graham Knight, author of the Arizona Spring Training Ballpark Guide

Graham - Spring Training Connection
Goodyear has a great ballpark for fans who want to sit in the shade. You're guaranteed cover if you sit in the club seating, which is even with third base. That's because a green awning covers all seats in those sections (106A, 106B and 107A). Fans sitting behind home plate (sections 110-114) don't have the benefit of a roof. Instead the press box blocks out much of the sun and by the end of the game all seats are shaded. www.springtrainingconnection.com

Mark - Lancaster PA
At Space Coast Stadium if it has recently rained, you will probably be asked to park elsewhere and walk since the field normally used for parking turns into mud quickly. The upside is that there is a lot of places to park for free (stadium parking isn't free) in the area if you don't mind walking 1/2 a mile to a mile to get to the stadium.

Spring Training Video - Detroit News
A great video from Lynn Henning of the Detroit News, shows you how to best enjoy the Tigers at spring training. Click for Video

Mark - Lancaster PA
The closer you park to Bright House Networks Field, the more difficult it gets to find a place and the more expensive it gets. There's a park a mile or so down Old Coachman Road where you can park for a "mere" $5 and the walk isn't bad. Traffic is very heavy well before and after the game so plan accordingly.

Jim - President Mets Booster Club
If you want to just get Good Photo's and Autographs then come down before the Games start and go to the Free Workouts each day. Also when Games start and the Team is on the road then that's a good day to see some players that don't make the road Game. Not all the starting Players go so you never know who you might see when the Team is on the Road. NY & St. Lucie Mets Booster Club

Graham - Spring Training Connection
The Brewers' spring training ballpark is often referred to as a hidden gem and that's partially because the team perennially ranks near the bottom in Cactus League home attendance. So, excepting for when the Cubs pay a visit, you don't need to pay for tickets in advance. And when you do buy them, the cheap seats will do just fine as the ushers in Maryvale are as lenient as they come. On days that crowds are sparse you can sit where you like when you like regardless of what your ticket says. Or you can choose to stay put, as there's not really a bad seat in the house.
Graham Knight, author of the Arizona Spring Training Ballpark Guide

Mark - Lancaster PA
Space Coast Stadium doesn't offer much protection from the elements, neither rain nor sun nor wind. The stadium food is top notch and reasonably priced and it's easy to get stuff signed by players.

Spring Training Pictures

Bob - Boston MA
I had a chance to see the Padres in action several times last Spring in Peoria, and the experience was amazing. This may very well be the easiest park to get autographs, because it is rarely crowded and it offers an intimate experience for the fan to connect with the players, and vice-versa.

Richard - Lyman SC
Go to the Washington Nationals training camp at Viera, Fl. for a great chance to meet players and catch baseballs during batting practice. The practice fields are wide open and the players are very glad to autograph especially for kids. My son and I got several balls hit out during practice and even started giving balls to younger kids. All of the stadium staff are very nice and helpful.

Karen - Athens TN
Patience is the name of the game for acquiring autographs...but, please, fellow autograph seekers, there are certain unspoken rules to follow...the most important being wait for the player to make eye contact with you before tossing a ball at him!

Michael - Somewhere US
The Tigers Spring training is great for big name signatures like Magglio Ordonez or Dontrelle Willis. You have to wait around a long time but you'll probably get the guy you want if they sign that day. Just get a good spot on the yellow fence and if you really want autographs, I'd suggest not leaving because it gets very crowded. Also, a lot of the coaches and other players are there. Al Kaline is a regular and signs a lot.
Three great spots for autographs are the Nationals, Astros, and Indians. The Indians is probably the easiest to get autographs at because when they say they'll be back, they mean it. Even the big names like C.C Sabathia sign a ton. The Nationals sign a lot before practice. Most of the guys signed before I asked them to. And the Astros is very fan friendly. You really get up close and personal with the players but the big names don't sign until after and sometimes don't sign at all.
Try to get your autographs before practice. Almost every coach will sign if you call him over and most big name players sign also. I got Mags, Dontrelle Willis, Todd Jones and Joel Zumaya in about three hours. Patience is the key and if you get a spot along the yellow fence, don't give it up because that is where most players sign.

Graham - Spring Training Connection
McKechnie Field is a Mecca for autograph seekers. Players are happy to oblige the fans that line the walkway next to the bullpens, which are next to the players’ clubhouses (Pirates in right field, visitors in left). This is one of the more accessible set-ups in the Grapefruit League for fan and player interaction, and many players from the Pirates and visiting teams will sign autographs during the game. www.springtrainingconnection.com

Jack - Surprise AZ
When you go up to get an auto from a player you should say Mr.(and there last name) could you please sign for me. When he is done you need to say thank you. I do this and it works for me. I have over 75 autos from spring training including Josh Hamilton, Sammy Sosa, Ian Kinsler, Jim Thome, Carlos Quentin, Alexei Ramirez, and more.

Shay Roddy - Philadelphia PA
Generally, players are willing to sign during spring training. The best time to get them is before the game. After the game the starters will go quickly down the tunnel and the rookies will stay on the field to run. Security doesn’t usually seem to tight, so 30 to 45 minutes before the game, just stroll right down to the seats behind the dugout.

Hector - helium.com
To get your autograph go to the ballpark early as the players are first coming out on to the field doing their stretching routines and different things like that. Sit or stand by the wall nearest the field be respectful and nice and be patient. Smile and say please and thank you, that's going to give you the best shot, so now all I can say is good luck to you.

Calvin - Auburndale FL
The best time to get autographs is during practice. The hardest ball park to get autographs is the Yankees its real tough there. If you are trying to get Yankees autographs it will be a little crazy especially for a big name there will be a lot of shoving and pushing so be ready. The best advice I can give you is to know all the players names and numbers and try not to push to much at lest don't let the player see you pushing and never try the parking lot because  no players will stop there car for you (at least no good ones) so good luck.

Nick - Woodbury
For getting autographs, its best to get them before they come to the ball park. You should wait outside their parking lot and some players will stop and sign autographs. In order to do this you should get to the ballpark around 7:30am.

Bill - Murrieta CA
Gates open at 9AM. Dodgers cross from indoor facility to practice fields around 9:20 AM. Best spot for autographs is at the practice field end of the line, after they finish the morning workout around 11-11:30.

John - Lond Island NY
We went to a Yankees Pirates game at Mckechnie field. First spring training visit ever. We got to the ballpark at 10 (Gates open at 11). Ran to the field and just waited for autographs. My advice, get to the ballpark an hour before gates open. The away team doesnt bring most of its players to away games so if you want to see specific players, go to their home games. Most players sign autographs 20-25 mins before the game so tough it out, not to say the occasional visits by players with nothing to do.

Kevin - Mansfield OH
I know at Chain O Lakes park any time the Indians have a game thats not at home a good portion of the team that didn't go to the game spends time working out at the home complex (the same can probably be said for the Tigers and all the other teams). So just because your team may not be playing a home game go down to their home field two or three hours before game time to get some autographs before heading out to go to the game elsewhere.

Alex - Dunedin FL
Go when the team works out in morning, find out the times and go no one is ever there and you can get all the autographs you need.

Ryan - Ballwin MO
Early risers have a great opportunity to get some autographs from Cardinals players. If you wait at the Cardinals clubhouse gate starting at 6:45, you can usually score a few autographs from Cardinals who walk, ride their bike, or drive to Roger Dean.

Chris - Atlanta GA
For the best place to get autographs, head over to Vero Beach, FL and visit Holman Stadium in "Dodgertown". It is one of the oldest spring training homes and features a dugout without a roof -- meaning that the players can sign autographs while sitting on the bench. Not only can you acquire a great deal of signitures but you can easily get some of the best players in the game. Please remember to be polite and courteous to the players and respect the fact that they are doing a job -- (i.e. don't try to grab an autograph during the game). If you want to get a great baseball experience you better make plans quick, the Dodgers are moving to Arizona in 2009.

Evan - Raleigh NC
Come early and you can get up close with the players and coaches, but the ballpark isn't in great condition if they are playing the d-rays ask skipper Joe Maddon for a autograph and sometimes he'll take you on the field.

Stephen - Los Angeles CA
I've been going for many years to Arizona. One of the best places for kids to get autographs is after a Padres game in Peoria as they are exiting to the clubhouse. Also a great place to get baseballs is at the Royals training complex. Have fun! See you there.

Other than the game itself, you'll aleays feel like a winner when you stop by the Rusty Spur Saloon in Oldtown Scottsdale. Live entertainment keeps everything a'rockin while you quench your thirst with some cold ones. Voted BEST Burger by the patrons themselves and a "House Margarita" to satisfy the Southwest Tequila experience, will keep you dancing in your "boots" even if your not wearing any. Oh yeah, and it's easy to buy some souvenier T-shirts for both the men and the women. This place is a one stop shopping party house. Just ask the Umpires. Open 7days a week. It almost pains me to give up this secret, but my favorite Mexican restaurant in the world -- and one of my favorites overall -- is Los Dos Molinos, 8684 S. Central Ave. This family-owned spot is crowded nearly every night, particularly during spring training, and is closed Sunday and Monday, which adds to the crowding. They cook with Hatch chiles from New Mexico, so the food is hot -- but delicious. The salsa and sangria are fresh and tasty. The carnitas (slow roasted pork), shrimp Veracruz and blue corn enchiladas are worth the wait.

Highly recommend Pita Jungle http://www.pitajungle.com huge menu, very tasty food, generous portions!!

Roger Dean Stadium - Jupiter FL
The Abacoa Town Center located near Roger Dean Stadium is open for lunch daily at 11:00 a.m. and there is a Starbucks for early risers. There are four main bars and all have daily specials. Rooney's, Jumby Bay Island Grill, JJ Muggs Stadium Grill and Masa Sagami (which is a Japenese Steakhouse, but one of the better bars in the area).

John - Cincinnati Enquirer
If you want a good pregame lunch or breakfast close to Ed Smith Stadium, go to Gus's 12th Street Cafe. The omelet's are bigger than your head. If Gus has had any luck fishing, the grouper is fresh. The prices are reasonable. And the front door of the place is 100 yards from the home plate gate the Ed. If you're for something to do postgame, Siesta Key is place to go. The beach is best in Florida -- a long stretch of powdery white sand. Traffic can be heavy. Siesta is just south of the Ed. Take 41 and follow the signs. The sunsets are spectacular.
John - Cincinnati Enquirer

Scott Wuerz - bnd.com
You can't go to Florida without going to the beach. And you can get to the beach from just about anywhere in Jupiter by heading east until you run out of land. But don't settle for just any beach. Head to John D. MacArthur Beach State Park which is an isolated island that will give you a chance to see the shore as nature intended it to be seen.
Open 365 days a year, it costs $5 per vehicle but it's well worth it. It's located at 10900 Jack Nicklaus Drive off State Road 703. For more information or directions, call 561-624-6952 or check out www.macarthurbeach.org.

I would definitely catch a game or two, and spend the rest of the time soaking up some sun, especially after this winter. There are a lot of things to do in and around Tucson, so there's no reason to stay inside. Daily Herald - Suburban Chicago's Information Source

If you’re in Clearwater, you must go to Lenny’s Restaurant. Lenny’s is a favorite of all the players, broadcasters, and writers. It caters to all the players and it’s not uncommon to head in after a game and find Comcast SportsNet doing a piece, or a group of Phils huddled around a table. Lenny’s offers great Philly/South Jersey style food at very good prices, served by a friendly staff in a place with personality. They also cater breakfast for the players most days.

The Brewers' minor-league complex is located across the parking lot from the main stadium at Maryvale Baseball Park and it's fun to check out the prospects in pre-game practice or in a game. The mood is very low-key, but access is amazing. You might just stumble upon the next Ryan Braun or Yovani Gallardo.

I know plenty of people who avoid chain restaurants while traveling. But, what about chains you don't normally frequent? The Phoenix area has plenty that haven't made their way to Milwaukee yet, including Jamba Juice, Baja Fresh, Sweet Tomatoes (a personal favorite) and In-N-Out Burger.

A restaurant tip: Little Moir's Leftover Cafe, at University and Military Trail, barely a mile due east of Roger Dean Stadium. This place is worth a special trip even after Spring Training. Some of the best seafood north of Key West.

There's no shortage of places to dine before or after the game in Goodyear - visit Places to Dine in Goodyear for a complete list.

Don't be fooled by the name. Daisy Mae's Steakhouse doesn't sound like much, and it doesn't look like much, either. But it is a great place, even though it's a bit off the beaten path. Pinnacle Peak is another good one, especially if you want to step back into the Old West.
Most of them are around the University of Arizona. McMahon's probably is the best. There are a bunch of Famous Sam's around, and most are pretty good.

Pinellas Trail For bikers, hikers and rollerbladers, this 54 km abandoned rail line winds along the coast near U.S. Alternate 19, providing a flat, leisurely ride from St. Petersburg in the south to near the sponge docks of Tarpon Springs in the north. Bike-rental places abound if you're not interested in bringing your own wheels.

Honeymoon Island State Park / Caladesi Island State Park At the end of the Dunedin Causeway are a pair of state parks that are great for swimming, fishing, nature walks and more. Full service with picnic areas, showers and even kayak rentals mean there is no reason not to spend a nice day outdoors. The US$5 entry fee is good for up to eight people in a car, while pedestrians and cyclists pay just US$1. The ferry to Caladesi Island leaves from Honeymoon Island State Park and is US$9 for adults and US$5.50 for children. Note that bicycles are not allowed on Caladesi Island.

Fritzee Freeze (368 Patricia Ave., Dunedin) For everyone who thinks soft ice cream comes in three flavours, chocolate, vanilla and chocolate-vanilla swirl, think again. Fritzee Freeze offers up no less than 27 flavours of soft-serve ice cream including caramel, crème de menthe, espresso and pina colada along with a full menu of burgers, dogs, gyros and other fare. I'd head east from Phoenix into the mountains to a little town called Tortilla Flat. The "town" is about the length of the Cubs' dugout, but the drive out there is spectacular. Check out the restaurant there with the dollar bills stapled to the walls.
If you've got the time, a short drive north to Sedona also is worthwhile. Head a little farther north, and you might see snow. After a Cubs game, you can head to Tempe or Scottsdale for dinner or a night out. Daily Herald - Suburban Chicago's Information Source

Check road work before traveling!!!! Last year I went to Orlando to visit the Braves in spring training -- we were able to get to the stadium easily enough but the way back to the hotel was closed due to road work. Needless to say we did not have directions to use back alleys and our maps only listed large to mid-sized roads. I spent over an hour circling a 5 mile radius and nearly lost my mind. Everything I tried backfired and my only redemption was by calling the hotel and requesting directions. I went back to the Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex and she lead me to the hotel.... I'm not making that mistake again.

C - St. Joseph MO
Went to Surprise for spring training. Note it is pretty far from the airport. Also hard to get autographs as the grounds are locked up a lot, and after the game the team disparses right into the clubhouse that is in right field.

Drew Olson - Milwaukee WI
Phoenix is a fashion-forward city and the month of March is a perfect time to score bargains on winter clothing, which may come in handy for two more months in Wisconsin. Fashion Square Mall, which has locations in Scottsdale and Chandler, is great for shopping and people-watching. The shops around Kierland Commons are terrific, as well. You're almost guaranteed to see some big-leaguers killing time between games.

Spring Myths - The weather is always sunny and 85. In Tucson, it can get chilly, especially at night. Another myth is, you don't see the players. Tucson isn't that big of a town, and odds are pretty good you'll see a player from the White Sox, Diamondbacks or Rockies if you go out to eat.

If you're going to partake of the excellent nightlife and cuisine in the greater Phoenix area, it's a good idea to work off some calories. There is no better way to do that than with a hike up Camelback Mountain or Squaw Peak. You'll see families on excursions, athletes on training runs, senior citizens doing the morning ritual and hungover bar patrons sweating out the night before. The best tips for this endeavor: dress comfortably in layers, bring a water bottle, take a camera and take your time. You don't want to make the evening news being plucked from the side of a mountain.

We're Twins fans. The traffic in Ft. Myers is HORRIBLE,tho, so we stay near Sarasota to visit the Twins "on the road". There are 6 stadiums within 1 hours' drive! At visitors' parks we get seats on the 3rd base line-after the game all players walk right by to the bus. Great for autographs!

Traffic and parking are always bad, but especially for 2008 because Douglas Avenue was narrowed to two lanes and parking is no longer allowed at the former elementary school (next to Knology Park). Do yourself a favor and park in downtown Dunedin. Grab an early lunch, explore, and then walk south on Douglas Avenue to the ballpark. It's only 1/3 of a mile from Main Street to Knology Park.
